On 14, 15 and 16 September, the technical team of AZTI-Tecnalia, the coordinator of the Life GISWASTE project, took part in the “Wastes 2015: Solutions, Treatments and Opportunities” international conference, held at the Viana do Castelo Polytechnic Institute (Portugal).The Centre for Waste Valorisation (CVR) and the Portuguese Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering (APESB) were the co-organisers of the event.  

Wastes 2015 brought together experts in waste management and recycling from around the world in order to share experiences and knowledge about the most innovative solutions for the sector.   By means of the lectures, working parties, discussions and technical visits, the event provided the platform to showcase innovative techniques, tools and strategies to improve the environmental performance of the companies and the public authorities.

AZTI-Tecnalia presented the Life GISWASTE project there, along with the innovative GIS-based tool to recover agri-food by-products (mainly vegetables, meat and dairy) in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country.AZTI-Tecnalia stressed the importance of the tool in to facilitate the decision-making process for authorities and companies, and give impetus to the by-product recovery sector, by helping to generate new economic activities in this field.
