Neol Bio, the company from Granada, has been granted the Spanish patent for a new technology to produce oils from agricultural by-products, which will be used to produce biofuels and other bioproducts. This technology is based on a sustainable process that uses organic by-products that do not enter the food chain, such as wheat straw or sugarcane bagasse.

In coming years, global demand for oils for non-food applications will increase by around 8 times, due to the development of industrial applications such as biodiesel, hydrobiodiesel and oleochemical products. The Neol Bio project aims to address this new context, given that current oil crops will not be able to meet this increase in demand without affecting feed and food.

Javier Velasco, the CEO of the company, expressed their satisfaction and stressed that this achievement places them among the leading companies providing value solutions in the sector.
