How to optimise agri-food waste management using multicriteria decisión-making methodologies and geographic information systems

When deciding where and how to develop an agri-food waste management plant, the distance at which the waste to be treated is located, the amount of waste available and transport costs are some of the factors that will determine the location, competitiveness and success of the infrastructure.

By combining the Geographic Information Systems and the multicriteria decision-making methodologies, the GISWASTE project reduces uncertainty about waste management plants, studies the geographical, economic, environmental and technical feasibility of the plant, and provides recovery alternatives, such as biogas or animal feed using dairy, meta and/or plant by-products.
